For tons of years I lived in just 1 city. Actually, this was the same city in which I was born, where I made first colleagues, went to primary school, where I met my first boyfriend et cetera. This small city in which I grew up seemed to me to be the whole universe. At that time I probably wasn’t even able to imagine any other place. Honestly speaking, I didn’t even think that they exist. Obviously, I was seeing them in television etc.. Unluckily, they were so unrealistic that they were more abstract, therefore didn’t even seem to me like real places.
I never really went for holiday thus didn’t visit any place different than my small town. I am aware that it can sound a bit crazy but that was almost 22 years ago, thus I believe that it was quite typical situation at that times in our country. Especially for kids like me – kids born not in a state city, as well as in rather poor family. After many years of staying in the same place, I eventually had my first chance to see a word.
And you can not believe me, but once I started, I just couldn’t stop. I have been travelling for last 13 years. I have visited each the continents and almost twenty countries overall. Some of those places I visited just as a typical backpacker, but in some of them I was really living for a while. Certainly, it has many advantages. I could meet many new individuals, know various cultures, become familiar with many different towns and their history etc.. Most of my colleagues keep on repeating how jealous they are about my life. But frequently I have the thought that too often they don’t remember that moving to new cities has also many disadvantages.
At this moment, it is not so bad. If you move to new place, you could easily find really detailed information about almost anything you need, for example, where to hire a motorbike in chicago or where to print in nyc. But just imagine to find this sort of information few years ago, when internet was not so popular yet. I remember that sometime this was even difficult for me to find out where I can find cheap but decent meal. I do believe, that the most tiring part of moving into new cities is to get familiar with new place, space etc.. However, I do like it the most at the same time.
